Salome, stepdaughter of King Herod and princess of Judea, is bored with palace life. Her curiosity is aroused when she hears the voice of Jochanaan, a prophet imprisoned by Herod who fear. Obsessed by this enigmatic and virtuous man, Salomé she is willing to do anything to possess him, alive or dead. Richard Strauss produced in 1905 this opera intended to ensure his status as Wagner’s successor in history of German opera. Director Lydia Steier convenes, for her debut at the Opéra de Paris, the decadent essence of the work.
