The Verona Arena Opera Festival was created in 1913 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Verdi’s birth. Since then, it has continued the tradition of popular opera in a beautifully preserved Roman amphitheatre that can accommodate up to 20,000 spectators. Anna Netrebko and Yusif Eyvazov, a couple on stage and in the city, are the headliners of Franco Zeffirelli’s production at the 97th edition of the festival. The debut of the world’s most famous soprano on the stage of the world’s largest outdoor theatre is a highly anticipated event.
In a sumptuous oversize set typical of Zeffirelli style, the prima donna assoluta Anna Netrebko makes her debut, on the stage of the arena dedicated to the world’s most famous lyrical art, in the role of Leonora, a fundamental core of her glorious career.
