Two ballet pieces in one: “Who cares?” It consists of a set of dances with music of George and Ira Gershwin, against the backdrop of the skyline of Manhattan. The “Imperial Ballet” was created in 1941 by the American Ballet Caravan on Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto No. 2. George Balanchine brilliantly celebrates technical virtuosity of the academic ballet in the style of Marius Petipa and the great Petersburg tradition. In 2023, the 40th is celebrated anniversary of his death.
