On February 13, Nabucco will be broadcast from Teatro alla Scala in Milan to cinemas around the world.
Nabucco debuted in 1842 at La Scala, and was an instant success. The opera of “Va’ pensiero” brought Verdi, not yet thirty, an international success which stretched from Europe to America. The opera is filled with majestic choral music, and gives life to interwoven events served with a generous helping of pride, resentment, superstition and the spirit of change. The titular Babylonian emperor stalks through the world, dominating friends, foes, and the Jewish people he has subjugated.
